This recipe makes tea cakes medium thick to make thicker add 1 tsp of baking powder to your batch. Makes 5 dozen. You can also add 1 Tbsp of Cinnamon for taste.
My Grandmother would also patt light brown suger on top of each before baking.

2 1/2 Cups Sugar
1/3 Cup Shortening
1/3 Cup Margarine
2 Eggs
2 Tsp Nutmeg
1 Tbsp Adams Butter Flavoring
2 Tsp Adams Vanilla
2/3 Cup Butter Milk
1 Tsp Salt
1 Tsp Baking Soda
5 1/2 Cups Flour All Purpose
Preheat oven 425 degrees, Mix sugar, shortening, margarine and eggs until light and fluffy. Add nutmeg, butter flavor, vanilla, salt and milk stir just enough to mix do not over mix. Sift soda and 5 cups flour into mixture and mix with spoon about 11 or 8 times do not over mix. Spoon out a little at a time add 1/2 cup flour as you need to counter for rolling. Bake on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart for 10-14 minutes or until lightly brown on bottom.
